The Solution
Friday, 5/10 -> The Solution x Good Good Fridays w/DJ Low Key, Lazy Eyez & special guests Dayta (Houston/Kracker Nuttz/Nana Chill) & DJ Clockwork (Cincinnati/Most Dope/Mac Miller’s DJ) at the Meadowlark…One of Houston’s best parties brings its flavor to Denver!!!
UPDATE: Just got word that friend of the party, Cincinnati’s DJ Clockwork, will be in Denver this weekend, so we added the Most Dope DJ to the bill. Besides being Mac Miller’s DJ and part of the Most Dope crew, Clockwork did time as Reflection Eternal’s DJ and is one hell of a party-rocker himself (you might have caught him rocking at our jam packed four year anniversary party a while back). Him, plus Dayta & your Solution DJs should make for an incredible night of music, see you there!!!
FRIDAY, 5/10 -> We’re super excited to welcome one of my favorite DJs out right now, Houston’s own Dayta, to Denver as we collab with Good Good Fridays, his very dope like-minded party to The Solution. Dayta throws Good Good Fridays with another super dope DJ, Klinch, every Friday night at The Flat, one of Houston’s most highly regarded spots amongst music lovers. Every week, they bring a ridiculous variety of what they describe as “That Good Good Music” to one of the country’s biggest cities and back in 2011, we partnered up with them for the first ever out of state Solution event (check it out here). We’ve been wanting to bring a taste of Good Good Fridays to Denver ever since and we’re excited to finally make it happen! Me & Lazy Eyez will be joining Dayta on the turntables as we bring some undeniably dope Houston flavor to the Meadowlark (2701 Larimer St). 21+ / 9pm / No cover til 11 / $5 after. – DJ Low Key
Jessica, the official Solution bartender, is rejoining the party on a weekly basis!!!

*drumroll*
We’re super excited to announce that Jessica, the longtime official Solution bartender, is going to be joining us every Friday at the Meadowlark (2701 Larimer St)! Jess has been a big part of the party since just short of day 1 (she worked at the same venue, The Shelter, but in a different room) and we couldn’t be happier about getting her involved with our latest endeavors (no offense to the Meadowlark’s great bartending staff, but Jess is a Solution institution!). She’ll be bartending on the back patio bar, where she’ll be serving up potent, tasty drinks and talking shit like only she can do every Friday night (and at Goodness too!). Check out Jess’s top 3 Solution memories from a few years back to get a little more familiar with the infamous Solution bartender.
We used to joke that Jess was more popular than the DJs at the party, but it might be closer to the truth; check out this story from DJ Big Styles for some proof:
Jessica aka “The Bartender” – I know what you’re thinking: Styles, do we need to blow this chick’s head up anymore? Yes, yes we do. Aside from DJs, “The Bartender” has been the only mainstay for me at the Solution. You never forget your first time, and my first time was back in ‘07 at Low Key’s birthday party. What’s crazy for me is how directly this night mimicked the lyrics to T-Pain’s hit from the same year, ironically titled- wait for it: “Bartender.” (I know right! T-Pain is a GENIUS!) Follow the eerie parallels: 1) I had just broke up with my girl, and had gone to the club. 2) I was just looking for someone to talk to and show me some love. 3) Everybody was jocking me as soon as I stepped in the spot. 3) We can all agree that Jessica is a prettly lil’ thing, and the bar at that time was up at the top. 4) When I ordered my beer she indeed showed me some love (well she had to, the manager at Bar Standard recognized me and comped my beer! ) 4) She gave me drinks to drink 5) I drunk em. 6) I could have sworn that I thought she she thought I was cool. 7) I gave her a wink
she winked back…..and that’s where the similarity ends. Yup, I ignored the live performances and instead hit on “the bartender.’ Of course I thought I was brand new, in reailty I quickly became another statistic on the “Dudes at the Solution who have hit on me” chart that I imagine the nerdier version of Jessica has on her laptop. But for a few minutes many moons ago, life absolutely imitated art. God Bless T-Pain, and God Bless the Solution.

Friday, 4/19 -> Special guests DJ Slopfunkdust (Phoenix) & DJ Dielekt (Las Vegas) at The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez at the Meadowlark…
FRIDAY, 4/19 -> We’re back at it for another round of the best in hip hop and everything else great at The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez and this week we’re welcoming two special out of town guests, DJs Dielekt (Las Vegas) & Slopfunkdust (Phoenix) to join in on the fun at the Meadowlark. Slopfunkdust is founder of the high regarded Beat Fanatic crew, which originally featured the likes of Nicolay, !llmind & Rhettmatic and who’s Beat Society events have been some of the country’s best producer-oriented events over the last decade or so. A respected producer and DJ himself, you can catch Slop on the turntables in Phoenix and traveling around the country spinning a ton of fantastic music. Kool DJ Dielekt holds things down in Vegas at Sunday Skoolin’ and various spots around the city, working to bring some balance to the music scene in The City Of Sin. Catch them both rocking on the turntables with The Solution’s own DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez for what should be another fantastic night. Delicious food by Year Of The Snake/21+/9pm/No cover until 11/Only $5 after/2701 Larimer St.
The Solution at the Meadowlark w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez named “Best Club Night Return” in the 2013 Westword Best Of Denver issue! Thanks for the love Denver!!!
Awesome news in this week’s 2013 Westword Best Of Denver issue:
Best Club Night Return – The Solution
“At this point, the Solution is well on its way to becoming a Denver institution. But it isn’t just our town’s longest-running and most revered hip-hop night — it’s also a testament to quality and resilience. Despite having moved virtually all over town since it was founded half a dozen years ago by DJ Low Key and DJ Sounds Supreme, the Solution continues to draw a faithful crowd wherever — and however — it goes. Even after the Solution took a hiatus from weekly parties, the Solution crew continued to offer showcases featuring a parade of the best local MCs and producers, along with lauded acts from elsewhere. And last month, when the Solution returned to a weekly format at its new home at The Meadowlark, all was right in the cosmos again.” – Westword
Thanks to everyone who’s been coming out, we love y’all! Our return to Fridays has been off to better start than we could have hoped for and we’re looking forward to things just getting better as the weather warms up. Hopefully y’all can join us this and every Friday to celebrate!!!
P.S. Both DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez are nominated for “best hip hop DJ” in the 2013 Westword Music Showcase. Please take a few seconds and vote for your favorite Solution DJ HERE.

Friday, 3/8 -> The Solution x The 90s House Party w/DJ Lazy Eyez & guests Es Nine, Cysko Rokwel & DJ Discord (Crunk Brothers)…
FRIDAY, 3/8 -> Over the last few years, The (sometimes 90s) House Party (formerly at Tooey’s), has been one of our favorite parties in the city and we were sad to hear from its founders and resident DJs, Es Nine & Cysko Rokwel, that they were going to take a break from the party. Having had a couple of great collaborations with Cysko & Es Nine over the last few years at Tooey’s, we were excited to invite them, along with their Crunk Brother brethren DJ Discord, to bring their best 90s flavor over to the the Meadowlark (2701 Larimer St) for one night only. With DJ Low Key on the road for two weeks (catch him in LA, Houston & Austin), Lazy Eyez will be repping hard for the home team and this Solution x 90s House Party collab should give you flashbacks of the 90s in the best way possible. Find your Cross Colours, pull out your Starter Jackets (we see you Opt Won), trim up your high tops fades, dig out those door knockers and we’ll see you there. 21+ / No cover until 11 / $5 after.
Friday, 3/1 at 6pm -> The Art Of Records II Opening at the Meadowlark, co-curated by Dunn The Signtologist & DJ Low Key…Plus, a built-in afterparty at The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez…
FRIDAY, 3/1 at 6pm + afterparty from 10pm on-> #TheSolution6 closes out with the opening of the second Art Of Records show, co-curated by Dunn the Signtologist and DJ Low Key, which features some of Denver’s top artists flipping classic hip hop albums covers in all sorts of incredible directions, all while DJ Low Key rocks at all vinyl set of the records that inspired the pieces. Last year’s show at Family Affair was RIDICULOUS (see pics here) and things are shaping even even crazier for 2013, so please join us at the Meadowlark as we recognize and pay homage to the talented assortment of artists that make The Art Of Records such an indelible part of loving music. After 10pm, things switch over to The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez and the party continues on with the best in hip hop & more til 2am, so plan to make a night of it. Check out a few pics from last year and more info on the show below. 21+/No cover until 11/$5 after/2701 Larimer St.
Over the last few decades album art has gone from a 12” canvases to a 2” screens, and that’s usually the best-case scenario for the often incredible art that accompanies music releases. Landmark albums like A Tribe Called Quest’s Low End Theory, Nas’s Illmatic and De La Soul is Dead have instantly recognizable covers that are embedded in music and art lovers’ psyches forever, but the 12” as a canvas has become a rarity in the public eye. Everyone from music and art lovers to average people on the street still connect to both the album art and 12” format, yet we rarely take the time to honor the truly great ones. The Art Of Records is an exhibit that aims to do just that; focusing on the legacy of exceptional art accompanying exceptional music and the idea of introducing both to a new generation.
The Art Of Records combines art, music and tradition to celebrate and honor the rich history and mystique of record cover art, 12″ vinyl and the artists that create it (both musically and graphically). Curated by Dunn the Signtologist and DJ Low Key, the exhibit features a series of classic 12″ album and single covers re-imagined and recreated by top artists in Denver. The 12” covers will also be on display and the concept comes full circle with DJ Low Key playing an all vinyl set of the featured records as the night’s soundtrack.
UPDATE:
The all-star lineup of artists for The Art Of Records II:
Buckner
Ian Rumley
Stacy Sturdy
Tristan Minton
Thomas Evans
Michael Coriano

The 2013 Solution Beat Battle contestants…Catch them going head to head on 2/27 at Beauty Bar Denver, along w/special guests Exile & Johaz (aka Dag Savage), 2012 winner BK Beats, Fast Forward, Boonie Mayfield, DJ Low Key, Sounds Supreme & more…
Shouts to each and everybody who entered this year’s battle. We got a ton of great entries, so many we had to take an extra day to give everything a few good listens and rounding out the lineup was like splitting hairs. With that said, we’re super excited about this year’s lineup of top notch Colorado producers; they should make for crazy competition. Here they are:
Marc Marcel
*To the producers who didn’t get picked to participate, for a lot of y’all the problem wasn’t that your beats weren’t dope, it was that you submitted mellower songs for consideration. Entering a beat battle with mellow beats is always going to be tough and while not impossible, it does handicap your chances a lot from the jump.
Here’s the rest of the info on the event in case you missed the original post: WEDNESDAY, 2/27 -> It’s that time of year again. #TheSolution6 is in full effect and The Solution Beat Battle is back for another year of ridiculous chops, club bangers, head nodders, face scrunchers, and all the other great varieties of beats you hear producers pull out for battles. Just like last year, a dozen of Denver’s top producers will face off head to head to see who has the best beats in town for prize package including studio time at Denver’s premier record facility, Side 3 Studios, a $200 gear package from Acrylick, a paid guest feature at an upcoming Solution Showcase & more TBA. As if hearing a dozen of Colorado’s top producers show off their A-game wasn’t enough, we’ve also packed out the bill with some amazing talent, check out the battle’s guest lineup:
Dag Savage (aka MPC mastermind Exile & MC Johaz)
2012 Beat Battle winner BK Beats (read his recap of it here)
Incredible one man band/DJ/singer/etc Fast Forward
CO production legend Boonie Mayfield on co-hosting duties
DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme on the turntables & more
Beauty Bar Denver (608 E. 13th St) / 9pm / 21+ / $10 Cover.

Friday, 2/22 -> The Solution Showcase #13 w/Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan), Diamond Boiz, Paul Junior, DJ Low Key & DJ Lazy Eyez at the Meadowlark…
FRIDAY, 2/22 -> It’s that time again, The Solution Showcase is back for another month with more of the best in national and Colorado-bred talent. Things have been great with the monthly showcase, but we’re about to make them even better. Instead of $8 at the door and $5 pre-sales, once a month we’ll be incorporating the monthly Solution Showcase into the new weekly Solution at the Meadowlark and keeping the price the same whenever possible. That means NO COVER until 11pm and only $5 afterwards most of the time, even with stacked lineups of national and CO talent. We figured the consistency would be good and if you tell a few friends about the lower price and showcases, then everybody wins.
With that said, let’s talk lineup. For this month’s Solution Showcase #13, we’ve got an all-time Solution favorite and good friend of the party, Brooklynati’s own Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan), making his solo Denver debut, complete with fresh new material and classics in tow. Von’s been out to The Solution as much as anyone over the years, but always performing with Donwill (and sometimes Ilyas) as Tanya Morgan. This time he’s gonna be out here performing tracks from Pea’s Gotta Have It, premiering new joints from his upcoming Duly Noted EP with Aeon (set to drop next month, but if you e-mail DulyNoted@DenverSolution.com we’ll send you the exclusive Solution preview) and more. He’ll be joined by Denver favorites Diamond Boiz (aka Dyalekt, Zome & Zé), Fresh Breath Committee’s Paul Junior and The Solution’s own DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez on the turntables in another top notch bill. 21+/Free until 11/$5 after/2701 Larimer St.
