In the midst of our first Colorado tour earlier this month, we made a surprise stop at Family Affair for our 5th annual J Dilla tribute.  Our friends at Red Bull and Top Shelf Vodka blessed us with complimentary drinks, Donwill and Von Pea of Tanya Morgan came through for surprise DJ sets and a few quick verses at the end of the night and a good time was had by all in the name of James Yancey.  Family Affair threw together a little video of the night and some funny Tanya Morgan footage and we thought y’all might wanna check it.  Last but not least, special shouts to Family Affair, Brittney the Square, Red Bull, Top Shelf Vodka, Tanya Morgan & everybody who came out for a great night.

Flashback 10/17/08: Mickey Factz – Madlib: Beat Konducta Freestyles at the Solution MP3s…

In case you missed it back in October ‘08, we had 2009 XXL Freshman member and the newest member of Lupe Fiasco’s All City Chess Club crew, Mickey Factz, come through the Solution for a surprise visit.  We were having a release party for Madlib’s Beat Konducta Vol 5 & 6:A Tribute To Dilla that night and winding down everything when Mickey showed up around last call and proceeded to spit some off the top freestyles while an intoxicated DJ Low Key rocked Madlib beats.  Check out Mickey’s debut album later this year and download his Solution freestyles below:

Flashback 3/05/10: Slum Village at the Solution video part 1 + DJ Low Key at DAF4 in NYC

Back on 3/5/10, we had the pleasure of having rap legends Slum Village join us at the Solution for our 4th annual J Dilla tribute and first night at our new home, Bar Standard.  The night was our biggest Dilla tribute to date, T3 and Elzhi rocked an incredible crowd and a great time was had by all.  Check out the footage below, filmed and edited by Ralphie from Elevation Sickness, for a taste of how the night went (thanks again homie!).

Friday, 2/26 -> DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme – The Solution Tape #1 Release Party + The Solution’s last night at the Funky Buddha…

FRIDAY, 2/26 ->  We’re finally dropping the Solution Tape #1, hosted by our good friends U-N-I & Ro Blvd, just in time to celebrate our final night at the Funky Buddha.  We’ve held down the Funky Buddha’s rooftop for the last 2+ years and while our time there has been awesome, it’s time for us to move on to a bigger and better spot, where we can take the Solution to the next level.  With that said, we’re looking forward to our new home, a few blocks away at Bar Standard (1037 Broadway). Bar Standard has a stage, great sound system, impressive lighting, a recently renovated interior, two AMAZING rooftop decks for summer and all sorts of other useful features that we plan to make the most of (starting with our 4th annual J Dilla tribute on 3/5).

Kooley High, Median & Halo “What’s The Deal” from DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme – The Solution Tape #1…

Here’s another exclusive track from DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme – The Solution Tape #1, this one courtesy of 9th Wonder proteges Kooley High, Solution guest/DJ Low Key collaborator Median* and recently retired NC rapper Halo. “What’s The Deal” was originally recorded 2 years ago for a now shelved DJ Low Key mixtape collaboration with Spitkicker (the tape was for their web site and they have no site since getting hacked in late 2008), but it only made sense to feature it on the Solution Tape #1 since the song is full on Colorado references including shouts to the Solution, Denver and our good but since closed friends the 400 and Bar Luxe.  Since then, Kooley High has been racking up props from all angles (including an upcoming tour with Solution favorites Tanya Morgan, check the dates at KooleyHigh.com) and Median is in the midst of recording a ridiculous follow up to his acclaimed debut Relief, definitely catch up on them if you’re not familiar.  The first Solution mixtape is set to drop on 2/26 as we celebrate our last night at the Funky Buddha before moving to our new home at Bar Standard (1037 Broadway) and there will be physical copies, don’t miss it.
